Hands and feet

1 Samuel 14:13”Then Jonathan climbed up on his hands and feet, with his armor bearer behind him..”

Stay with me as I expound this scripture and then explain the practical applications that we can draw from it.  Jonathan was the son of king Saul and a close buddy of David, unlike his father this man was a good, God-fearing man and very courageous too, not a coward like his father Saul.  Now look, the situation was pretty bad as they were ringed and fenced by the enemies on all sides; however, Jonathan boldly decided to do something and attack the enemy camp, with nothing to cover him and none except his servant to follow him, Jonathan decided to climb the rock with his hands and feet and his armor bearer followed him.  The fire on the person next to you would catch you too, so be careful who you move with!  We need more of such courageous Jonathans’ who would arise during such dangerous situation with wisdom and guts!

No fun in running away when the enemy approaches you, have the guts to counter attack him even if you have to crawl to do it, anybody listening to me?  Everybody wants to do things from the comfort zone, but war zone is different sweetheart, you have to be ready to smudge your makeup a bit and dirty your hands if you want victory.  After preaching in the all-night prayer for nearly 4/5 hours, as a family we returned home early morning and found that since there was no current our water tank was empty hence no water.  Well, we hit the pillows since we were just bushed-out, after a couple of hours, when my hands suddenly fell down from my cot I could feel water, due to exhaustion we had forgotten to close the bathroom tap! Ah!  The power had come and caused the mess!  The speakers, electronic gadgets were all over the floor and water was entering into other rooms as well….I was on the floor, crawling on my hands and feet trying to clear up…So, being a preacher doesn’t exempt you from such crazy things, we had to face it.

Before attacking the enemy Jonathan said, “Come up after me, for the LORD has given them into the hands of Israel." Glory to Jesus! That has to be our faith statement too! God is with us!  What I want to emphasize through this message is that, ‘do not be intimidated by the enemy and the noise that he makes, be ready to overcome the problems by doing whatever it takes…..even if you have to go down on your hands and feet.  Did you get that? This subject is too exciting to just wind-up, I want to go deep….

I would like to talk about the woman who was bleeding for 12 years, do you remember that miracle?  We read about that in Matthew 9:20–22, Mark 5:25–34, Luke 8:43–48; however, Mark talks about her clinical condition and her utter desperation: Mark 5:25-28”A woman who had had a hemorrhage for twelve years, and had endured much at the hands of many physicians, and had spent all that she had and was not helped at all, but rather had grown worse--after hearing about Jesus, she came up in the crowd behind Him and touched His cloak. For she thought, "If I just touch His garments, I will get well."  This woman was left with no option, she had exhausted everything but she took the right decision to not give up but go down on the floor and crawl to touch the garments of Jesus.  Jesus is never blind to the efforts you take and the trust you put in Him, the Bible says that the moment she did that, she was healed instantly.  Amen.

We also read of another incident where a Canaanite woman comes to Jesus in a miserable condition, she cries out,  "Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is cruelly demon-possessed."(Mathew 15:22) Observe the words ‘cruelly possessed!’  This is what brings us to Jesus with bent knees and plead Him for mercy, if things are cute, our knees refuse to bend, anybody listening?  The faith of this woman to be ready to  go down on the floor under the table to pick up the crumbs that fall from the master’s table in order to receive deliverance for her daughter is amazing faith – Jesus did reward her faith, He said: Mathew 15 28“O woman,” Jesus answered, “your faith is great! Let it be done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.…

I would like to narrate about our Indian soldier Subedar Yogendra Singh Yadav here, this brave soldier has the high honour of being the youngest recipient of the Param Vir Chakra. He received this award at the age of 19 for his actions on July 4,1999, during the Kargil war. Born in 1980 in Aurangabad Ahir village, Uttar Pradesh, Yadav showed immense courage during the war in 1999. He volunteered for the task of capturing three strategic bunkers on Tiger Hill, which were situated at the top of a vertical, snow-covered, 16,500 feet high cliff face.
He was climbing the high cliff with the help of a rope when the enemy bunker started rocket fire. Yadav was hit by three bullets in his groin and shoulder. Despite being severely injured, Yadav kept climbing and finished the remaining 60 feet to reach the top of the cliff. Though in immense pain, Yadav crawled to the first enemy bunker and lobbed a grenade, which killed four Pakistani soldiers and set back the enemy fire. This gave the rest of the Indian platoon the opportunity to climb up the cliff face.
However, this was not it. Yadav continued to fight and destroyed the second bunker too with the help of two fellow soldiers. In fact, he also engaged in hand-to-hand combat with the enemy and killed four more Pakistani soldiers. By the time the rest of the Indian platoon arrived, Yadav had already neutralised the enemy attack. This gave Indian soldiers the upper hand and they managed to accomplish one of the toughest missions of the Kargil war – the capture of Tiger Hill.  During the second part of the fight, a few more bullets hit Yadav. Some say he was hit by 16 bullets, some say less, but he survived it all.

Your grit and guts is revealed when you overcome your challenges with a grin! Bravo!
