Fasting brings breakthrough

Fasting brings breakthrough…..

Acts 10:30 ‘So Cornelius said, "Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing..’

When Cornelius fasted and prayed, an angel visited him and showed him the path of salvation and his home turned into a revival centre.  Amen.  My ministry started as a small fasting-prayer-gathering in our living room on Saturdays which eventually turned me into a preacher.  Fasting is an awesome tool and weapon which Christians seldom use; please let us learn to fast.  Besides this 40 days fasting, I want each one of you to fix a day of fasting during the week and make it a regular practice.

Today’s environment demands the ability to keep several balls in the air at the same time! Not mono-tasking but multi-tasking, so how am I supposed to fast in the midst of such chaos? Why not?  Yes, you can!!  I did it, while I was a young mother of two kids, working in a multinational bank and also into active part-time ministry.  In fact, my ability to handle all the roles came from my discipline of  FASTING.  There were days, I would work the whole day on Saturday with fasting and then straight charge to the meeting avenue to preach in the evening. God supplied the energy! The Bible has examples of one-day, three-day, seven-day and forty-day fasts (Judges 20:26, Esther 4:16, 1 Samuel 31:13 and Matthew 4 respectively). Do not randomly and nonchalantly start a fast, plan it meticulously, pray over it and fix the duration.  Now that we have decided the date and duration, let us see how to go about it.

I had given you guys tips on fasting, get into my website and read it if you have missed it.  Today I want to talk about some misconceptions about fasting and also the methods of fasting.

If you’re a working woman, you can still fast and skip may be breakfast or lunch.  If you are fasting just one meal, kindly do not take anything heavy like full glass of milk/juice.  Bringing the body and appetite into control is a process that we should learn.  2 Peter 1:6 ‘…to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness..’  Crucify hunger pangs and don’t give in to it.  Start with one meal and then grow steadily in fasting one full day.

Besides my own children, my school kids at ‘Abide School’ are also trained in fasting and the parents also join us in our Saturday fasting.  Come on dear parents, start fasting as a family, you would watch your family wonderfully grow in the Lord.

We can spread the news of fasting among prayer group members/church/ elders to encourage and for support, other than that, it is better to lie low.

Avoid unnecessary social networking to remain focused on God. Reading the Word is of utmost important; without ‘spiritual food’ fasting would then be dieting, hence spend time in Word and prayer.
