Jesus is coming soon - What is Rapture?
devotion by Sis. Bala Samson
1 Thessalonians 4:16 - For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
This scripture talks about Rapture. Rapture is the time Christ comes for the saints to take them to heaven. Rapture is the first of the two comings, not coming to the earth but in the air. When Christ meets the saints in the air, He takes them back to heaven with Him and presents them before the Father's throne where they remain during the time the tribulation is running its course on the earth.
Christians living for God at death go immediately to heaven. When Christ leaves heaven to come down in the air of the earth, the saints who are in heaven will come back with Him and the living saints on the earth will be caught with Jesus in the air - Fenis Jennings Dake.
The rapture is that instant moment in which all of a sudden, Jesus takes away those who are living for him before the rise of the anti-Christ. The Bible teaches that after the rapture, people who are left behind should go through the Tribulation period which will last for 7 years and suffer in the hands of Anti-Christ and his rule.
1 Corinthians 15:51,52 - "Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed."
The apostle Paul says that this event is going to take place without any further notice, suddenly in the twinkling of an eye. Remember Enoch who was taken up by God, it would be the same way. Genesis 5:24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him. During rapture, people would just suddenly vanish. The world would look at this sudden disappearance as something strange, they would just have no answer. At first the whole world is thrown into confusion over what has happened. People will say the idea of God taking some people without taking all is ridiculous. After all, look at how many good people who went to church including bishops, pastors, elders, deacons, ushers, choir members, and bible teachers are still here!!! But people who would have heard the message of Rapture and the end times, at this point realize, that the rapture has taken place and they have been left behind. Your plan to get right one day, has failed. You cry God, "Oh Jesus, I'm sorry for my sins. Please take me. Please take me too." But it is too late...
What happens after Rapture?
The group of people who were careless about rapture and not living holy for God are now left behind in the world to face the TRIBULATION period. The Tribulation period is seven year period of terrible judgement which immediately follows rapture. Revelation chapters 16 to 19 talks about the SEALS, TRUMPETS, and BOWLS judgement that will occur during this terrible time. Jesus Himself said, "GREAT tribulation SUCH as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, no, nor ever shall be." - Mathew 24:21
Luke 21:36 - Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
