Ezekiel 14:3 “Son of man, these men have set up idols in their hearts and put wicked stumbling blocks before their faces. Should I let them inquire of me at all?"
I remember entering the house of a person whose entire house was decorated from top to bottom with idols ( not plants). Anywhere you turn, there's an artifact, painting, antique pieces; all of them were Hindu gods. I felt suffocated, before I left that house I started sobbing and crying, they were shell shocked to see me weeping. I could not explain but I did pray before I left the house.
Internal desires for idols always create external structures. In the above scripture, the elders sat physically in front of Ezekiel (a holy, external act) while their external lives outside that meeting were polluted by the culture around them. Be it holi festival, deepavali or anything, they compromise and enjoy with them, also eating sweets offered by idol worshipers. God is against all this!
We cannot compartmentalize our lives by offering God a few hours on Sunday while dedicating the rest of our week to serving external cultural gods.
Ezekiel 14:6"Therefore say to the house of Israel, 'Thus says the Lord God: "Repent, turn away from your idols, and turn your faces away from all your abominations.""
We should never give away our children in marriage with idols worshipers which would bring curses. This division creates a stumbling block (Ezekiel 14:3) right in the living room. The "curse" manifests as generational confusion, broken foundations, and children who grow up torn between the true God and the cultural idols of the ungodly parent. In a Gentile culture saturated with idols, a Christian cannot afford to live carelessly. Stay alert!
