Acts 27:12 "Since the harbor was unsuitable to winter in, the majority decided that we should sail on, hoping to reach Phoenix and winter there. This was a harbor in Crete, facing both southwest and northwest."
The Word "unsuitable harbour" caught my attention! Let me explain the scripture - the "unsuitable harbor" means Fair Havens (Greek: Kaloi Limenes). Despite its welcoming name, it was considered a poor place to spend the winter for several practical and geographical reasons.
Based on 'facts and figures', the ship's majority—(so called educated lot) including the pilot, the owner, and the centurion—rejected Paul’s warning and decided to risk sailing 40 miles west to reach Phoenix, which offered a more secure, double-facing harbor for wintering. We have great learning in this chapter, so diligently hear the voice of God!!
Protection is where God's takes you and obedience to His voice brings you clarity! You don't have to grope in the dark, He will be your Light! Quality of the harbour doesn't matter when God is with you! Hallelujah!
Adapting to God's choice requires shifting our focus from our own comfort to His character. The ship's owner and pilot relied on their own expertise instead of trusting the warning.
When we had to shift our house, God stirred our heart to visit a building that was much smaller than our requirements and the neighborhood was not pleasant. The owner was a Christian and he spoke very gently to us. Despite many shortcomings we obeyed the voice of God and moved into that place only to find that we were surrounded by church and Christian ministries. Glory! Safety is found in God!
