CHIEF BAKER
Genesis 40:16 When the chief baker saw that Joseph had given a favorable interpretation, he said to Joseph, “I too had a dream: On my head were three baskets of bread.[a] 17 17 In the top basket were all kinds of baked goods for Pharaoh, but the birds were eating them out of the basket on my head.”
Genesis 40 just blew my mind! This chapter is multi-layered with revelations, this has to be meditated during the year end. Take the façade off your life and live with authenticity. Try not to put the ‘I am holy’ mask but live true and pleasing life before God. Sharing your authentic self, including your perceived flaws and weaknesses, helps you to stay humble and work towards setting right the crookedness rather than projecting yourself as perfect.
Even if a direct Word comes to us as warning, caution or notice, we shoo it away and go our way because we feel we are entitled to be blessed. Ah, the ‘warning signals’ are not for me think Christians, ‘I tithe, I read the Bible, I go to church, I come from a Christian , I volunteer in church and so on…’ so they feel they’re entitled to be blessed. SELF RIGHTEOUS CHRISTIANS like the one we read in Luke 18: 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: “God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’ Let us examine our hearts, life and attitude today! Christians are disrespectful to elders, servants of God and still feel no remorse about it and feel they are right; repent and straighten your life please!
Let me unpack the above scripture for you, the baker saw that the chief cupbearer got a good interpretation for his dream with promotion and blessings, so he thought, ‘ I will also tell my dream, so that I will also receive the same.’ Look at his hypocrite heart! BAM came the reply from Joseph, who said, ‘Pharaoh will lift off your head and impale your body on a pole. And the birds will eat away your flesh.’ This was judgement from God through Joseph, if the Baker had not committed a serious crime this capital punishment would not have been pronounced against him; however, he doesn’t seem to be aware of his sins, he feels he is entitled for a blessing. Ah, this is terrible! This is how many of us feel, don’t we?
Look at that family, all their children serve the Lord and are very talented so my children should also be blessed the same way. Nothing wrong in desiring that way but you need to do the homework. Do you pray like that father, do you fast like that father, do you allow your children to serve in the church, do you sit with your children and teach the Bible like that father, do you strictly not allow your children in worldly entertainment????? Revelation 22:12” “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done.” The distribution will not be equal it will be based on your good deeds, anybody listening?
The baker had no realisation, conviction of his sins but felt he has to be blessed too, having come to the end of this year, let us examine our hearts to find out if our life has been pleasing to the Lord. Have we done things to make Him happy?
