Dwell within you
Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Colossians 3:16
Friends, I am not talking about a careless and swift reading of the Bible, but we need to allow it to dwell in us deep, which means you got to sit and read the Bible daily for minimum half hour.
Just not only listen to the Word but also memorizing scriptures would certainly empower you to live a powerful life. We think memorizing Bible verses is only for Sunday class kids, not at all, we as Christians should always fill our mind with scriptures and also as you develop a habit of memorizing scriptures, God will bring Bible verses to your mind at the right time. If only we knew the benefits of memorizing Scripture, we would make it a priority.
Consider these real-life scenarios:
• You are at the Grocery store and strike up a conversation about Christ. They ask a question, and a Bible verse pops into your mind.
• A coworker asks a question about spiritual things, and a Scripture that you memorized long ago comes to mind.
• You knock on a door during soul winning. The person listens for a while then asks a tricky question. In a flash of insight, the Spirit reminds you of a Bible verse with the answer.
• While you pray, you are asking God for direction or understanding. A Scripture comes to mind that brings clarity.
Immediately after salvation during my second pregnancy, when I joined work at the multinational bank I worked then, I had to make lot of changes in my life. During lunch lot of obscene jokes were shared, I told them I cannot sit here anymore and I moved to sit alone in the staircase and eat. My colleagues asked me, ‘where in the Bible does it say ‘don’t listen to dirty jokes’? In a jiffy I was able to open the Bible and tell them: Ephesians 5:4” Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving.” There was no more debate, the word of God silenced them.
I heard Prophetess Juanita Bynum(African American woman of God) speak in-depth on how memorizing and reading the Bible affects the brain during times of crisis. She herself came out of depression only by taking in more of Bible into her mind.
It was found that there were three regions of the brain that were the most active during these times. Areas such as the frontal attention lobe, the medial prefrontal cortex, and the nucleus accumbens all experience significant increases of activity and responsiveness during religious activities. Reading the Bible can do a lot more than just affect the brain, though. Once certain parts of the brain are activated, emotional responses begin to show not only inward, but outward in the form of behavioral changes as well. Read the Bible!
