Dwell apart

Numbers 23:9 "As I see him from the top of the rocks, And I look at him from the hills; Behold, a people who dwells apart, And will not be reckoned among the nations. 10 "Who can count the dust of Jacob, Or number the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the upright, And let my end be like his!"

When the Lord saw His people ‘separating themselves’, dwelling apart, staying away from the wrong crowd, not mixing with idol worshippers, not partying with the pagan crowd and when they stayed aloof, away from the Moabites, God was super-pleased that  He made prophet Balaam to bless His people.  Amen.
Balaam was a corrupt prophet, he was a greedy fellow and most important was that, he could not curse Israel because God had his tongue in His control. Amen.
I write this sermon during the time when grand festivals are celebrated in south India which is the harvest festival where they worship sun god with grand rituals.  Telangana the town where I stay is filled with colors and is in festive mood, preparing sweets and delicious food.  In the midst of this Hula-Bula, a group of people who believe the Lord Jesus Christ are staying away from these celebrations and staying separately.  Christians who are working in secular places do find it difficult to stay separate and not mingle with these celebrations because at times it might offend them.   It is important that we please God and never visit homes that celebrate such hindu festivals because the poojas and worship they do are against our true God. We must politely refuse when we are invited for such festivals.

1 Corinthians 10: 14 Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry.
1 John 5:21 Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.

There are few who go through persecutions at homes because they may be the only one saved in a house filled with idol worshippers; however, the Lord looks at such people who are standing firm for Him today and He says: “I am with you!” Verse 21 says: "He has not observed misfortune in Jacob; Nor has He seen trouble in Israel; The LORD his God is with him, And the shout of a king is among them.”

“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?”(2 Corinthians 6:14)
