Alan changed my life!

Philippians 4:12 “I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.”

The above scripture would never be understood by a person who is all eyes for the worldly stuff and would never comprehend the meaning of  the word ‘suffering.’  Apostle Paul said , “I know how to get along in all circumstances’, can we honestly say that statement today?   People look for cushy, stress-free, hassle-free, easy, undemanding life; however, life is not so! Is anybody listening to me?  We have umpteen books about ‘how to be successful’ and 1001 books of ‘Making big money’ but the best reading is ‘how to go through storms in our life.’

I read an article of how a young mother came to know that her first born son had ‘Down’s syndrome’, a child mentally and physically handicapped.  What a shock it would have been! Before she could recover from this shock, her husband walked out of her life after  a year and here she was left to fend for herself alone with an infant that was not normal.  Let this message awaken someone out there who is weeping because her husband did not smile at her or they had a silly fight or may be their housing loan had been declined, today know what is real struggle in life.  Besides her daily household scores and her office work, she also had to deal with  huge medical bills that were accumulating for her son Alan; yet, one line in that article moved me beyond words, the writer wrote, ‘my son Alan is the best thing that has ever happened to me, he changed my life and made me a stronger person.’ Wow, what a spirit!  We have profound lessons to learn here friend!

The mother did not dump away the kid in an orphanage but stood by her son Alan and helped him grow as an independent kid, helping him with every step in life.  That is courage! Divorce is easy, but staying in a troubled marriage and making it work is a challenge, quitting the job is not the answer to the problems at work, working hard and coming out victoriously is a challenge. Did I bless someone out there?
