Know your identity

Matthew 1:6”Jesse was the father of David the king. David was the father of Solomon by Bathsheba who had been the wife of Uriah.”

Don’t allow the world and the noises intimidate you, know who you are in Christ! Anybody listening to me? When we identify who we are after our encounter with Jesus, then our life would take a U turn, nothing of the past matters though, because He has given us a new identity: HIS CHILD! Wow! What a privilege! John 1:12 ~”Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”  I want this truth to percolate through this devotion to everyone who is reading.  Lift your collars and walk with confidence because: you are not abandoned, you are not a failure, you are not alone, you are not insignificant – you are special!

Caveat! Well, this truth comes with a responsibility, now, we cannot live the way we want as wishy-washy Christians – God demands change.  2 Corinthians 5:17~ “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

The above scripture from the book of Matthew, is an atom bomb because God reveals many things here: David the father of Solomon was a king, next, Bathsheba  was the wife of Uriah.  Both of them forgot their identity and they behaved recklessly.  David in a jiffy gave room to lust and threw all his responsibilities out of the window and committed crimes beyond imagination.  Know who you are! When you lust at the woman in the office and tell her, ‘hey, you look beautiful today’, remember you are a husband.  When you lustfully look at a handsome man, remember you are a mother.  Because of the father’s ugliness, Solomon went after women, did you see that? Apostle Paul said: •  Romans 6:6~ “ For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.”

When the pilot walks past you in the airport, all eyes pop out, because people generally admire the plum job  of flying above the clouds, the high salary, high social reputation etc; however, along with it comes the accountability of being responsible for the lives of the passengers that are on board.  While he carries his luggage to board the flight, he should understand his identity, if that was done , many accidents of the past could have been averted .

Likewise, every position comes with accountability and answerability, be it: pastor, preacher, father, mother, Manager, Supervisor, President and so on, if we forget, it results in mayhem.

Youth Leader, listen to me today, your pastor has trusted and given you responsibilities in the church, remember your identity and stay away from sin, stay away from the wrong crowd and put a fence around you.
