Cornelius

Acts 10:2”..a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, and gave many alms to the Jewish people and prayed to God continually.”

What is happening in chapter ten: The entire chapter is filled with visions, visit of Angel, divine instructions, MENU CARD brought down from heaven and much more.  You can call them chilling, thrilling, exciting and exhilarating.  Nevertheless, we need to understand that it was no fairy story but this is how God operates. If you do not understand that God’s ways are strange then you would live a ‘bland life’ like the world that revolves around numbers and facts. God’s love for the good news of salvation to reach the gentiles is revealed here.  Up to that point of time, the disciples preached the gospel only to the Jews, or those Greeks that were circumcised and obeyed the Jews' religion; but now, " they turned to the Gentiles’. The apostle Peter is the man that was first employed to admit uncircumcised Gentiles into the Christian church; and Cornelius, a Roman centurion or colonel, was the first that with his family and friends to be brought into the fold.

God had to select the right person for this great job, because it was first time that Gospel was to be preached to the gentiles, God selected Cornelius, for this great assignment. We read Cornelius was a Centurion, God fearing man with all his household, gave charity, prayed to God continually. I want to point something I saw about Cornelius here, let us read:

7 When the angel who was speaking to him had left, he summoned two of his servants and a devout soldier of those who were his personal attendants,

8   and after he had explained everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.

I was awed by the obedience of Cornelius who did not ask a word to the angel but immediately obeyed his word by selecting his servants for the job.

Cornelius was blessed with good staff :THE BEST COMES TO YOU WHEN YOU GIVE YOUR BEST TO God:

Cornelius summoned two servants and a devout soldier who were his personal aids to whom Cornelius explained the vision and all personal details and he sent them on the assignment.  They were obedient servants too who listened carefully and went to the right place.  The person they had to meet was Peter and the place they had to go was Joppa. 6   he was staying with a tanner named Simon, whose house is by the sea."

No confusion. In God is in your business, life and job then there would be no chaos, anybody listening?
