Poor in spirit

Matthew 5:3   "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

This particular scripture is put on top above all the other verses is because this is the foundation on which all the other “blessed are those” scriptures stand.  What is so important about this you may ask, we need to understand from where we came.  Are you listening?  When we clearly understand that, then we will be grateful to God for His mercy in saving a wretch like us and also with trembling we will take care of our salvation.  Today Christians are reckless about their soul is because of their  pride over their achievements, educational qualifications and their skills.  Jesus said: John 15:5” for apart from Me you can do nothing.”  Your position in the church committee, your status in the community, your professional achievements and your job are nothing in the Kingdom of God.

A person 'Poor in spirit'  understands that if not for His grace, you would have been lost despite carrying the enormous number of educational certificates and skills.  Apostle Paul said: “remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. 13But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.”(Ephesians 2:12,13)Glory to Jesus!

There was one particular sister who attended our prayer meetings and she would pray like this:” Lord, we left cinema and all the entertainments of the world in order to follow you, so bless us.”  In her prayer she revealed that by giving up on cinema she has done some kind of sacrifice but she failed to understand that God saved her from the gutter water.  Since that realization did not happen in her life, she is still living a ‘dead Christian’ life with no power, with no intercession burden or service for God.  Are you listening? Poor in spirit people understand that we were all once sinners but now brought close to God through His blood.  Amen.

Before coming to Christ I felt that I was super smart and that’s why I got good jobs, I bought my own apartment, and several other things, one day Jesus Christ walked into my life, trashed everything else and became the hero of my life.  I resigned my job with the multinational bank and walked the roads of villages, using public toilets because I knew I was once a sinner without God until He walked into my dead life. Amen.
