Great joy!

“Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people” (Luke 2:10).

The birth of Jesus Christ does not bring just joy but ‘great joy’ said the angel who stood  before the shepherds who were staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night.  The shepherds could have just shooed the vision away because it was too good to be true, imagine angel and host of angels appearing suddenly in front of you!  That’s how many of us analyze, isn’t? They could have also felt, ‘what can the birth of a baby bring any difference to us’ BUT the shepherds did not shove away the vision, they immediately said: “"Let us go straight to Bethlehem, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us." Wow, that’s the spirit that brings changes in our life! Don’t you ever say this is also just another Christmas because we can never say that, THIS Christmas is being celebrated in the midst of COVID 19. be grateful you are alive! Are you listening?

Many have lost their dads, moms, grandmoms and their loved ones to COVID 19, just not unsaved people but also pastors have died, so don’t celebrate this Christmas the traditional way, but share love, joy, your money and live a life of purpose.  This whole week we have been sharing gifts and clothes with the poor of our community.  We had kept a lovely dress for someone needy, just then a beautiful 10 year old girl came with her mom to receive gifts from us whose dad had just met with an accident.  We gave her that grand dress which she took with great joy and said, ‘thank you aunty’.  That’s great joy friend!   What is your definition of JOY today, tell me?  The day you get your pay check, the day you watch your favorite movie, when you meet someone you love, when you get an overseas assignment?  All these kind of joy – every bit of it  - are perishable, are you listening?

Jesus talks about joy in a different way, let me explain:

“Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man! Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven” (Luke 6:22–23).

“  ….rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven." (Luke 10:20).

Merry Christmas!
