Exotic Breakfast

1 Samuel 9:24”Then the cook took up the leg with what was on it and set it before Saul. And Samuel said, "Here is what has been reserved! Set it before you and eat, because it has been kept for you until the appointed time, since I said I have invited the people." So Saul ate with Samuel that day.”

As a 12 year old student, to be personally invited to have breakfast at the quarters of the nun in the convent was unbelievable and far-fetched; however, I got that privilege to be invited for an early morning breakfast of sausage, salami and butter sandwich, for someone like me living in utter poverty those days, this kind of breakfast was exotic.  Other students did not get this treatment, I was also given privileges in payments of fees and many other benefits.  Did you think I understood God’s Hand behind all this? NO, I felt I was given all this because I was smart and brilliant in studies, I was good at studies no doubt but  it was only the grace of God that had given me the wisdom, which I did not realize then. Not after several years, did I understand that God had been with me in my journey right from the time I was in my mother’s womb, taking me through mountains and valleys for His purpose of eventually making me His Chosen Vessel in ministry.  Today, I as a Principal of our free school, Abide School, we educate the poor free of cost with free lunch, uniform and many other benefits.

In the above scripture, we find that a ‘special piece of meat’ was reserved for Saul by prophet Samuel and he was also made to sit with Prophet Samuel and eat food that day. What did Saul do for this great privilege and honor? Nothing.  Sadly Saul did not comprehend this great compassion, mercy and love of God that was bestowed on him and he was also hand-picked by God to be the king over His inheritance. (1 Samuel 10:1)  All this looks like a fairy tale, yes, Saul treated it like a fairly tale because he later neither obeyed God or understood the grace of God behind all his blessings.  The power, fame and position drove Saul to be proud and conceited and later finally lost everything.  Caveat!  We stand by His grace! Amen. Never forget that today!

By the grace and mercy of God, I got saved in June 1999, during the pregnancy of my second child and the major complications during the pregnancy period(click HERE to read my testimony.) I knew whatever I achieved was only because of the love and grace of God, therefore I resigned my job (after a call from God) and surrendered my life to Christ to work in His vineyard.
