Settling in Shechem:

Genesis 33:18”Now Jacob came safely to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Paddan-aram, and camped before the city.”

I have watched people jump from frying pan to fire, which means jump from one terrible situation into a another worse mess. They would have just got out from an abusive marriage but without giving any breathing space, they would jump into another affair without making any check on that person or wait on God for His approval.  Have you watched  financial crisis plummet deeper and deeper until they reach bankruptcy and collapse? This could have been avoided with wise financial planning, wisdom, control in handling finances, curb spending and avoiding debt.  Not many highly educated people with umpteen degrees, do such planning while they go in for excessive EMIs, anybody listening?

Listen, Jacob by now has had an encounter with God(Genesis 32:24-26), he experienced the Hands of God during his meeting with his brother Esau and the peace with which God brought him safely to the city of Shechem; however, the scripture tells us that he camped before the city (33:18) and bought land from the sons of Hamor, Shechem’s father. He built an altar and called it El-Elohe-Israel, meaning God, the God of Israel, sounds good but not right in ‘SETTLING CLOSE TO DEVILS’ and having transactions with them.  I am talking about his dealings with the the sons of Hamor, Shechem's father and also buying a property instead of dwelling in tents.  This was not the place that God intended him to be. Period.  Your suffering starts when you are in the wrong place.  (you can tweet this)

Jacob would finally go to Bethel anyway, but he was midway allured and enticed by the city of Shechem where he found a nice place to build a cozy house for himself.  Alas, the man of God who had met God face to face now falls flat for materialistic things! . Jacob was not altogether without God, he had built an altar and called it El-Elohe-Israel but still his heart was not totally surrendered to the plans of God.  The Bible says: Jeremiah 17:9   "The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it? 10    "I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give to each man according to his ways, According to the results of his deeds.”

Friend, today we talk about police brutality, government corruption, drug trafficking, human trafficking, gender identity, sexual orientation, the murder of life with abortion, etc. but let me tell you something worse than all this and also more deadly and toxic than Corona virus is SIN and temptation to sin that is deeply rooted  in the hearts of every human being that can be wiped out only through submission to God.
