devotion by Sis. Bala Samson

2 Samuel 15:13”Then a messenger came to David, saying, "The hearts of the men of Israel are with Absalom."

The above scripture kind of somersaulted my heart as I read the betrayal of the people of Israel towards king David.  How could they?  These were the same people who sang praises for David ‘Saul killed thousand but David killed 10,000 enemies”, these were same people who invited him to be their king, these were the same people who loved their king and saw the Hands of God on him as he succeeded more and more; now they are with the opposite party, who is none other than David’s own son Absalom.  I give this account for the benefit of people who do not know the history.  Imagine the beloved son standing like an enemy against his own father David! Most horrific pain unimaginable!  As I started typing this devotion, I could almost feel the pain of David and my hurts and wounds just vanished compared to the enormous  pain suffered by David.

If today you feel your friends, colleagues, family, close buddies have turned against you, then this message is for you!  The above scripture says that Absalom turned the hearts of the people against David.  It requires cunning skills to poison someone against you and turn the hearts that once loved you to now turn against you.  The helper of this is none other than the devil himself.   In my several years of experience, the most painful moments were not financial crisis or illness but the betrayal of people who once loved you.  Anybody listening?

Imagine the husband telling the wife, ‘I don’t love you anymore but have another woman in my live’, the son ‘rejecting the parents because of his girlfriend’, church member turning against the pastor and his family who actually nurtured and helped him come to Christ, when you learn of your own sibling wickedly act against you,  your close friend dating your husband, your boss whom you trusted spreading false rumors about you, your team members turn against you and much more.    All these breaks your heart into million pieces but today I encourage you to do what David did, he encouraged himself in the Lord.  Amen. Psalm 56:3”When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You.”
